We are very proud to say that OHIS has a dedicated team of clinicians with a wealth of experience in delivering 24 hours of on-call service throughout the year. Our clinicians have been dealing with all types and levels of clinical emergencies offshore (apart from diving related) over the last six years and onshore for the last 18 years. We have supported hundreds of offshore/onshore medics, nurses, nurse practitioners &first aiders and provided clinical advice and emotional support to manage cases in sickbays ranging from minor injuries to major emergencies including chest pain, MI (heart attacks), cerebrovascular events (stroke), fatal injuries, fractures, unconscious patients, sudden collapse, anaphylaxis, high-velocity injuries, major outbreaks, mental health and dealing with a death offshore. Our clinicians have provided these services not only in the North Sea but also to installations in the Norwegian water, Dutch waters, Irish Sea, South China Sea and parts of Africa.

We have most up to date knowledge of logistics arrangements, particularly in the UK waters and Europe. We are familiar with air transport (Bond, Scotia) & UK Coast Guard service and have the experience of arranging many routines and emergency evacuations.

We have a 24/7 available experienced doctor with an active phone line to accept calls from medics to provide clinical support. OHIS has a dedicated clinic in Aberdeen where these medevacs are seen 24/7 as required. We have a great working relationship with the hospitals throughout the UK and in particular with facilities in Shetland & Orkney Islands, Inverness, Aberdeen, Norwich and Teeside in case we need to send a patient to these hospitals for further assessments and treatments. For those cases which do not require a hospital referral and can be managed by a General Practitioner, we are very fortunate to have an in-house private GP service. We not only can assess those medevacs in our clinic but also issue a private prescription as required to save time rather than wait for a usual GP appointment which can sometimes take weeks. It can also save a lot of your money by getting that employee back to work quickly.

To complete this loop, we can arrange post medevac review and fit to return to work assessment appointments at a separate but reasonable cost to you. We provide reports to the employer with details on progress at all stages and in keeping with clinical ethical boundaries. In this way, you as an employer would have the most up to date knowledge of your employee’s journey to ensure continued support which is always helpful for both employer and employee.
